The Newfoundland and Labrador Section of the Alpine Club of Canada was started to bring together the climbing community in the province with our primary goals of expanding the community, maintaining climbing areas and promoting human powered outdoor activities and sport.

In order to build that climbing community the main objective is to establish public awareness awareness, education and maintain approachability; Many new climbers know little about climbing outside or don't know who to talk to about it. We  hold many events per year for people to try climbing outside, experience new aspects of climbing, or learn the skills needed to climb safely. We can also help in finding partners or groups of people to climb with locally.

Maintaining climbing areas covers many things. From developing new climbing areas to maintaining existing areas and ensuring that we can access them safely. Over the years the effects of the weather and the ocean have taken their toll on many of our climbing areas, especially Flatrock. The Club runs projects to clean routes, replace bolts, along with creating and maintaining trails to the areas, and developing new places to climb.
